FAQs

Fees and payment

How much does it cost?

My rate is $125 per 50 minute individual session and $175 per 50 minute couples therapy or family therapy session. I do offer a sliding scale fee.

I am currently in network and accept insurance with United Healthcare, Aetna, and Optum.

For all other forms of insurance I am classified as an out-of-network provider and am happy to provide you with a coded statement that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement for services. You may also be able to submit these statements to your flexible spending account. Please call your insurance company ahead of time to inquire about reimbursement for mental health services.

Good faith estimate

Can I have an estimate?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit the CMS.gov website.

Location

Where are you located?

I am based in Minneapolis, MN. I offer both online video sessions and in-person sessions in my home office in South Minneapolis.

Confidentiality

Are our conversations private?

In general, everything discussed between client and therapist is protected by law as confidential. However, there are some specific scenarios in which I am mandated by law to break that confidentiality.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected abuse or neglect of a child under 18 years of age

  • Suspected abuse or neglect of an elderly adult 65 years of age or older

  • Suspected abuse or neglect of a dependent adult 18 years of age or oder

  • If a client is threatening to harm himself or herself (The therapist will make every effort to enlist client cooperation in their own safety. If they do not cooperate and the therapist believes they are a danger to themselves the therapist will take further measures to ensure the client’s safety)

  • If a client threatens serious bodily harm to another person

Fit

How do I know if you’re a good fit for me?

Great question. I truly believe, and research shows, that successful therapy relies on the trust and rapport between the client(s) and the therapist. I approach each session with empathy, curiosity, and a sincere desire to understand.Your life, your thoughts, your feelings, and your behaviors are taken seriously. That being said, therapists are people too and therefore personality is important. Just as you are not friends with every single person you meet, you will not match with every therapist. An initial phone consult is the first step in getting a sense of working together. If you have specific questions or concerns I suggest you jot them down ahead of time and feel welcome to ask them.

Timeline

How long does therapy take to work?

The short answer is that there is no official timeframe. Everyone is different.  The reason it can be hard to give a set timeframe is that it really depends on what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping to accomplish, what your unique life experiences have been and how much you’re willing to participate in the therapeutic process.

I find it helpful to have an initial conversation on this topic to ensure we’re beginning our work on the same page.
